Base: Sketch Paper.

Made Using:
Color Pencils.
Topic: From now on, I am starting few theme based paintings. This time the theme is "Classical Dances of India". The first one being "KATHAK".

Kathak is one of the eight forms of Indian Classical Dances, originated from northern India i.e from Uttar Pradesh(One of the states of India). The name Kathak is derived from the Sanskrit word katha meaning story, and katthaka in Sanskrit means she/he who tells a story, or to do with stories. It is danced by both men and women.

You have perfectly caught the colorful grace of this beautiful dancer.

I guess I don't know that much about this style of dance - you say it tells a story. Is it always the same story? Or a different dance for each story?

@ Arianna: Thanks for your comment!

@ Clytie: Yes, they tell stories but not the same every time. Basically the dancers mostly specializes in recounting mythological and moral tales from the scriptures.

Your drawings have a clean, uncluttered feel to them! They are very proportionate, not always easy to achieve. Your drawings have inspired me to do more sketches instead of just paintings :))
