Topic:Today is Mahashivratri.Mahashivaratri falls on the 13th day of the dark half of Phalgun. It means "the night of Shiva". All the prayers and rituals are performed at night. Shiva got married to Parvati on this auspicious day. Lord Shiva appeared in the form of a ling in front of Brahma and Vishnu on this day.Lord Shiva is known as the Lord of Destruction. He has three eyes and is said that when his third eye opens, the whole universe gets destroyed.

So, I just quick sketched this portrait of Lord Shiva. I hope you all will like it (though the scanning is not done properly...:()

What an interesting myth, Megha! The third eye is a tad...eerie - to me. I prefer to think of it as a painted decoration on the forehead! LOL A wonderful rendering, as you always do!

You reminded me of my childhood when I used to draw images of Shiva, Krishna, Vishnu, Saraswati etc etc. Well my sketches were never really good...

Abt the third eye - Everything that has a beginning has an end. And the end must happen for new beginnings to happen. So the function of the third eye is actually to end the cycle that leads to beginning of a new one.

This is a great, Megha! I'm with Deb in trusting Lord Shiva doesn't open that third eye! Hope I can retain some of these lessons you are sharing with us.

    Your roses are lovely!
